The Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC) Service Module is an optional, small software application that can be installed on Dell 12th Gen PowerEdge servers or higher. The iDRAC Service Module uses additional monitoring data to refine the iDRAC interfaces (Graphical User Interface (GUI), RACADM CLI, and Web Service Management (WSMAN)). You can configure features on supported operating systems, depending on the features you want to install and the unique integration needs in your environment.
The iDRAC Service Module architecture uses IP socket communication to provide iDRAC with additional system management data (operating system/device drivers) and a one-to-many console that can access system management data through the operating system's standard interface.
Supported host operating systems and hypervisors
iDRAC Service Module 4.1.0.0 support is available on the following 64-bit operating systems:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2022
- Microsoft Windows Server 2019
- Microsoft Windows Server 2016
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.9
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3
- Ubuntu Server 20.04.02 LTS
- VMware vSphere (ESXi) 7.0 U2 (supports PowerEdge yx3x, yx4x, and yx5x generation servers).
- VMware vSphere (ESXi) 6.7 U3 (supports PowerEdge yx3x, yx4x, and yx5x generation servers).
Taking iDRAC 9 as an example, find iDRAC Settings -> Settings -> iDRAC Service Module Settings as shown in the following figure:

Download the iSM installer, select "ISM-Dell-Web-4.1.0.0-VIB-ESX7i-Live.zipAs shown in the figure below:
Unzip the downloaded package and find "DEL_bootbank_dcism_4.1.0.0.2410-DEL.700.0.0.15843807.vibThe file is as follows:
Upload the vib file to ESXi storage, as shown below:
Path after upload:/vmfs/volumes/6160c4b8-1b62ee04-3c3b-b8cb29cba9d4/iso_images/DEL_bootbank_dcism_4.1.0.0.2410-DEL.700.0.0.15843807.vib
In the ESXI management interface, click Manage -> Packages -> to install the update, as shown in the following figure:
After installing the update, you can see the DCISM module as shown below:
Switch to the iDRAC management interface, and then find iDRAC Settings -> Connectivity -> OS to iDRAC Passthrough -> Test Network Connection, as shown in the following figure:
Find the iDRAC service module settings again, as shown in the following figure:
You can see that the connection status on the host operating system is already running.
Reopen the iDRAC homepage dashboard, and you can see that the hostname, operating system, and operating system version can be obtained normally in the system information, as shown in the figure below:
