CentOS Linux 7 End of Life:June 30, 2024。
Due to the differences between CentOS Stream and the CentOS Linux distribution model, it is not recommended to reuse CentOS Stream in a production environment. CentOS Stream is very different from CentOS Linux 7/8 in nature, and will add experimental new features that can be considered RHEL's guinea pig; This is contrary to CentOS Linux's original claim of "stable and reliable reliability comparable to RHEL", in other words, if you prefer the stability and reliability of RedHat Enterprise Linux, there will be no more free options for CentOS in the future, and you can only use RHEL for a fee.

On December 8, 2020, Red Hat announced that they would be discontinuing development of CentOS, a production-ready downstream version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, in favor of an updated upstream development variant of the operating system called "CentOS Stream". In response, Gregory Kurtzer, the original founder of CentOS, posted a comment on the CentOS website announcing that he would launch another project to achieve CentOS's original goals. Its name was chosen as a tribute to Rocky McGaugh, the early CentOS co-founder. As of December 12, Rocky Linux's code repository has become the hottest repository on GitHub.
