Az Android Debug Bridge (adb) egy univerzális parancssoros eszköz, amely lehetővé teszi az emulátor példányokkal vagy egy csatlakoztatott Android eszközzel való kommunikációt. Számos eszközműveletet lehetővé tesz, például alkalmazások telepítését és hibakeresését, valamint hozzáférést biztosít a Unix shellhez, amely különféle parancsok futtatására használható emulátorokon vagy csatlakoztatott eszközökön. Az eszköz kliens-szerver programként működik, és három komponensből áll:
kliens esetén a komponens parancsokat küld. A kliens a fejlesztő gépen fut. A klienst a parancssori terminálról indíthatod elő, ha adb parancsot adsz ki.
Egy háttérprogram, amely parancsokat futtat az eszközön. A háttérprogram minden emulátoron vagy eszköz-példányon háttérfolyamatként fut.
A szerver, amely kezeli a kliens és a háttérprogram közötti kommunikációt. A szerver háttérfolyamatként fut a fejlesztő gépen.
