1. Limit the use of drives
If we don't want others to use our drives to view our most important and private files, or to modify or delete system files,
For example, if the C drive of the system is installed or the drive letter of some important files is stored, we can restrict the use of an important drive by the following operations.
1. Click Start, click "Run" in the menu, the system will open a "Run" dialog box,
Type "gpedit.msc" in this dialog box, click OK or press enter. A "Group Policy" window will automatically pop up.
2. In the "Group Policy" window, we can see that there is "Computer Configuration" and "Computer Configuration" under the "Local Computer" policy in the left window
"User Configuration" two options, we select the "User Configuration" option here, and open "User Configuration", "Administrative Template",
"WINDOWS Components", "WINDOWS Explorer" options.
3. At this time, we will find that in the right window of the entire window, some options appear for us to choose, then we are in the settings window on the right,
Select the Prevent access to the drive from My Computer and right-click on this option, select Properties, followed by Prevent Drive Access from My Computer
Access the "Properties of the drive" settings window, where there are three options, namely "Not Configured", "Enabled", "Disabled", and the default for our system is the "Unconfigured" option,
Next, we need to set the parameters in this dialog.
4. After selecting "Enabled", you can see that a drop-down list to select a drive will appear below, if you want to restrict the use of a certain drive, just select the drive.
For example, if we want to restrict the use of C drive, check "Restrict drive C only", and that's it. If you wish to turn off all drives, you can select "Restrict all drives".
Select the drive you want to restrict access to, and click the OK or Apply button to complete the setup process.
Once the setup is complete, let's try to see if the drive we set up is throttled. Open a drive with limited settings, and the system will automatically pop up a prompt box that prohibits the use of open drives.
It can be seen that our settings are in effect. Even using the DIR command, the Run dialog, and the Network Drive dialog cannot view the directory and data of this drive.
2. Hide the drive
If we want to completely hide our drive, the method is also very simple, in order to make it easier for everyone to understand thoroughly, we will also introduce the operation steps in detail:
1. Click Start, click "Run" in the menu, the system will open a "Run" dialog box, enter "gpedit.msc" in this dialog box, click OK or press Enter.
A "Group Policy" window will automatically pop up.
2. Select the User Configuration option, and open the User Configuration, Administrative Templates, WINDOWS Components, and WINDOWS Explorer options.
3. In the settings window on the right side of "WINDOWS Explorer", select the "Hide these specified drives in my computer" item is also in its properties.
There are three choices, we select the "Enabled" item and then select the corresponding drive that needs to be hidden in the drop-down list below.
After the setup is completed, we go back to the WIN desktop, turn on my computer, and then you will find that the drive letter we set is missing, and here, the whole setup process is complete.
With these two simple settings, we can safely store our private files and important data on our computers. You don't have to worry about others using us at will.
It is important to note that although we hide the drives, users will still be able to access these drives and the data in them from other programs. For example, using WORD's "Open" dialog box,
Being able to open the drive that we are hiding. You can also use WIN XP's disk management tool to view and modify hidden drives. This is the same as restricting drive usage.
