Why can't I edit php files with Notepad?

Notepad adds a BOM to a UTF-8 encoded file.

Don't use Notepad to edit PHP anymore, switch to other editing software.

Install Notepad++ and open the PHP you edited with Notepad.

The toolbar "Format" → "Convert to UTF-8 BOM-free encoding format".

Then click "Save".
