Beijing, January 7 -- Today, the case of Kuaibo Technology Co., Ltd. suspected of disseminating obscene materials for profit was heard in the Haidian District People's Court of Beijing. The litigation representatives of Kuaibo Company appeared in court with Wang Xin, Wu Ming, Zhang Kedong and Niu Wenju.
According to the public prosecution's allegations, since its establishment in December 2007, Kuaibo has provided network video services to network users by releasing free QVOD media server installers (QSI) and Kuaibo player software to the international Internet based on streaming media playback technology.
The public prosecution alleges that the above-mentioned defendant unit and the defendant knew that the QVOD media server installer and fast broadcast player were used by network users to publish, search, download, and play obscene videos, but still allowed them to be released, searched, downloaded, and played obscene videos, resulting in a large number of obscene videos being spread on the international Internet.
On November 18, 2013, the Beijing Haidian District Cultural Commission seized four servers hosted by Kuaibo from a Beijing technology company located in Haidian District.
After that, the public security organs identified 29,841 video files extracted from the three servers mentioned above, and determined that 21,251 of them were obscene videos. The public prosecution believes that the actions of the above-mentioned defendant unit and the four defendants constitute the crime of disseminating obscene materials for profit.
During the trial, Wang Xin, the litigation representative of Kuaibo Company, denied the prosecution's allegations, believing that neither the company nor the individuals involved in the case constituted a crime. In the inquiry session, Wang Xin answered questions about Kuaibo's technology and operation.
Wang Xin said that the cache server is the data automatically cached by netizens when they watch online videos on demand, and the reason why it is set is a common practice in the industry to improve service quality.
Regarding the question of whether individual Kuaibo users were aware of the broadcast of pornographic files, Wang Xin said that they were aware of this content. At the same time, he said in court that under current technical conditions, there is no better way to block bad videos. However, in order to assume social responsibility and purify cyberspace, Kuaibo has also set up a 110 system to filter file names, and has also improved the reporting system.
